Who we are

The “Fondazione Canossiana per la Promozione e lo Sviluppo dei Popoli – Onlus” is a juridical body authorised to promote, coordinate and support initiatives in favour of the poorest of the world, in the areas of charitable works, education, health and social assistance.

Priorities and Beneficiaries

The Canossian Foundation is not profit oriented and exclusively priorities and beneficiaries pursues aims of solidarity in the social and promotional fields, even beyond national confines, by means of organising projects, achieving interventions of support and distribution of subsidies and humanitarian aid.

Priority is given to the abandoned, the most forgotten, those most lackhing opportunities of education and meeting the primary needs of young people, women and children. This commitment has to be carried out indistinctly anywhere in the world, in different cultures, in less stable social and political situations and those of extreme poverty.

Purpose

"For a better life" in favour of developing Peoples and Nations.
Never as before, today we are witnesses of dramatic situations of imbalance, injustice and tragedies that prevent the majority of women, men and children of this earth, to live a dignified life.

Origin

The Canossian Foundation, with headquarters in Rome, came into begin in Italy in 2004. The promoting agency is the Institute of the Canossian Daughters of Charity which has a strong tradition in the field of international solidarity and human promotion of  "the most needy".

The sensitivity and creativity of St. Magdalene of Canossa (Foundress of the Institute in 1808) are the motivating reasons for this expression of solidarity that, thanks to the constant  and generous contribution of many, Sisters and Lay people, is still able to respond today to its mandate: “I reccomend to you my beloved poor”.

At present the Institute is in 35 countries of the world, with 365 communities working full-time in activities of support and promotional exchange both human and Christian.

The Canossian Foundation, conceived in this formative-promotional process, may become a new means, abreast with the times, and capable of strenghtening the potentialities of Canossian strategies.
